Probably polished the pipe with chrome polish before it got too bad. I polish mine often. It's still a little discolored, but not too bad.
Remember to check your bolts and tighten them, especially the helmet lock. Someone lost their helmet lock not too long ago. I was out riding the other night and heard a vibration and thought it was the new luggage rack but nothing lose when I checked it. When I got home I found my helmet lock almost ready to fall off. The vibration of the bike loosens the bolts sometimes.
